Best Places to Buy a Cottage Near Montreal

2020 has seen a huge migration of city-dwellers to the countryside of Quebec, leading to cottage prices skyrocketing during the third quarter of that year. The reason being: everybody wants a cottage, and everybody wishes for an escape from their homes during these trying times.

Luckily for Montrealers, just 30 mins to 2 hours away there are plenty of small neighbourhoods with gorgeous cottages. The purpose of this article is to list a few of the best ones and pique your interest in some of the prettiest living locations that Quebec has to offer.

Lac-Simon

Despite being approximately 2 hours away from Montreal, Lac-Simon is a stunning and rather inexpensive area. The Centre touristique du Lac-Simon also has rentals for boats and other sporting equipment, as well as a huge and accessible beach right on the lake.

Labelle

Bordering on Mont-Tremblant Park, Labelle is a beautiful little town with some of the best hiking in all of Quebec. During the winters, Labelle is also surrounded by impressive ski hills, notably the great Mont-Tremblant.

Mont Tremblant

The town of Mont Tremblant is certainly the most popular and expensive area of the ones listed here. But it is actually for good reason. For skiers, easy access to this impeccable mountain is a huge benefit for living in this area. Additionally, there are plenty of restaurants and shops all around to fill your needs at any given time.

Lac-des-Seize-Îles

This one is a biased pick because I used to personally have a cottage on Lac-des-Seize-Îles. But this quaint little town is actually one of my favourite locations north of Montreal, and it is only an hour and 15 minutes away from the city! Nearly every property here is bordering on a lake, and there are a few tiny shops and restaurants for any night out. It is also very close to ski hills such as Mont Blanc and Morin Heights for all of your skiing needs!

Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts

Sainte-Agathe is the second biggest and most popular area listed here, and therefore tends to have higher home prices and fewer listings. The thing is, this popularity completely warranted. The whole area is surrounded by water and features some of the best beaches that Quebec has to offer. It is also full of awesome restaurants and stores without feeling commercial. Its location is also key, as it is surrounded by ski hills and hiking trails, all while being close to the highway for easy access.

Val-David

Located right next to Sainte-Agathe-des-Monts, Val-David is yet another tiny village surrounded by excellent skiing. Val-David also has a regional park with some beautiful hiking that I highly recommend to adventure lovers out there. Moreover, it seems there are always properties for sale around the Val-David area, and it is a solid choice for any city getaway!
